NatWork Wins Full Tilt Poker game289 XX Event #41
As the first post-meltdown FTOPS draws to a close, onlookers can now get a good sense of the health of the online poker industry. Although guarantees and attendance were down overall, it seems like it was business as usual for high stakes tournament players in the rest of the world.
Event #41 cost intrepid glory hunters $100 + $9 for straightforward entry, but the price could easily ramp up from there. Being a rebuy event, this game289 tournament naturally encouraged players to splash their cash, but the addition of Full Tilt’s own Rush Poker format made things ever wilder.
For those unfamiliar with Rush Poker, here’s a quick primer. At one of these poker tables, whenever you fold a hand you are instantly transported to a new table where you’re dealt a new grip full of cards. That means no waiting around to watch the pot finish; it’s non-stop action for every single player.
As you might imagine this encourages action – evident in the 1,775 rebuys and 389 add-ons that the 817 entrants stacked up. Although this wasn’t quite as many as Full Tilt had hoped for, by the looks of the guarantee. The accumulated buy-ins just failed to top the $300,000 FTP had laid on for the event, resulting in a tiny $1,900 overlay.
The non-U.S. Red Pros were out in force for Event #41 and after almost 6 hours of play it looked like a member of Team Full Tilt might go all the way. Canadian Mike “Timex” McDonald has over $2.6 million in career tournament earnings and an EPT title to his name.
He made it to this FTOPS XX final table, but couldn’t progress further than fifth. Lagging behind him, but still in the money, were fellow pros Fabian Quoss (17th), Martin Kabrhel (52nd), Jono Karamalikis (61st) and Soren Kongsgaard (66th).
When it came down to heads up play, NatWork and zavor4ik decided enough was enough and shook hands on a deal that split the money pretty evenly. In the end it was NatWork who took the title, netting a slightly bigger pay-day than his opponent.
Had zavor4ik become the victor, it would seen the completion of an incredible repeat. The online expert, who has over $500k in online winnings, won this exact event in February’s FTOPS XIX. It’s a pretty niche skill, but if there’s ever another high buy-in Rush Poker rebuy event, look for zavor4ik to take it down.
Final Table payouts for FTOPS XX Event #41 were as follows:
1 NatWork $57,803.83
